I took the Diasporic Cinema course and familiarized myself with the cultural narrative of immigration and diaspora, as well as the academic vocabularies to approach the highly controversial issues.
As a diaspora myself, I feel at ease and even a little proud of my current identity–the intercultural, transnational me. Lionnet and Shih’s theory of “minor transnationalism” inspired me to do the project named Mapping Chinese Diaspora in New York, which aims to connect diasporas through location-based memories expressed in literature, film and other art works. It is a long-term project and I hope to add more overtime.
